How does PDF compression work?
Our free tool compresses PDFs entirely in your browser – no upload. By default the file is repacked losslessly: redundant objects are consolidated, object streams compressed and metadata cleaned up. Text stays searchable and quality is unchanged.
When you need maximum savings, choose Strong mode. Every page is converted into a high-quality image and re-embedded. This shrinks the file considerably, but the text becomes part of the image – text selection is no longer possible.
When does strong compression make sense?
Strong compression is best for scanned documents and image-heavy PDFs that have no text layer anyway. For contracts, invoices or other documents where text should remain selectable and copyable, standard compression is the better choice.
Is compression safe?
Yes. Because processing happens only in your browser, your file never leaves your device. We store nothing on our servers.
Is this tool free?
Yes. PDF compression is free forever and requires no registration. There are no hidden size limits.
